Welcome to Cherished Hunts Antiques! Offered here today for your consideration we are delighted to offer this single crystal oyster plate
from the Martha tableware line by the Cambridge Glass Co. of Cambridge, Ohio. Measuring about 10.25" in diameter this plate features
six wells or compartments to accommodate your oysters.
This plate is one from a set of (6)- SIX in my store available for sale in two different listings.
They're being offered individually for sale.
For those interested in more than one I will gladly combine shipping to keep postage costs as low as possible. Please bear in mind that these are heavy, weighing nearly two pounds each before packing.
. Cambridge cataloged these plates as item number 3600-156. patented by A.J. Bennett, president of Cambridge Glass Co. in July of 1938.
I am guessing they were introduced for sale later that year or perhaps in 1939. They must have had a fairly short production run or were not especially popular as today we can find scant few images of them on line and none available for sale now or recently.
Indeed, these do seem to be quite uncommon in the market, as are elegant glass oyster plates of any kind. They exist commonly in all forms of pottery and china, but in elegant glassware are almost non-existent. I believe that these will be of special interest to collectors of Cambridge glassware, and to collectors of oyster plates in general.
You'll find my plates to be in very good vintage and presumably used condition. Damage free they suffer no chips or cracks. They are free from any hard water film, stain, or discoloration. Glass is of brilliant clarity and pattern definition excellent. Noted an occasional tiny stray air bubble trapped in the glass of a couple of the set as well as expected minor surface wear on exterior bottoms.  Some wear is to be expected there. Additionally some minor wear is noted commensurate with age, typical use, and apparent stacking of plates in cupboard. Overall they're pieces that present themselves quite well.
